Abstract

The most important prognostic factor in BC patients is the presence of regional metastases in axillary LNs. Treatment with NAT in cN+ patients increases the cases of complete LN response, especially in HER2 or TN patients, where ALND could potentially be avoided.

SLNB after NAT yields FN rates above 10% and is an insufficient technique for post-NAT staging. Marking of initially metastatic LNs and their subsequent removal after NACT combined with SLNB (TAD) is the procedure with the lowest FN rate for axillary staging.

Different marker and localisation options are available to mark and retrieve the node of interest after NAT – so far most of them have been associated with certain drawbacks.

In this study, Magseed® was the method of choice - a non-radioactive magnetic seed that can be placed any time before surgery and stays securely in place until removal.

The primary endpoint of the MAGNET study was to determine safety and reliability in the marking and retrieval of the LNs initially marked positive with Magseed® before and after NAT.
